Tyrannosaurus Rex was one of the largest land predators of the Cretaceous Period right up until the great extinction that wiped out the Dinosaurs 65 million years ago. For many years Tyrannosaurus was believed to be the largest land predator ever to have existed but subsequent discoveries have shown that even larger predatory Dinosaurs existed, including Spinosaurus which could grow to an astonishing 15 metres long when fully grown and the fearsome Giganotosaurus which could reach 16 metres in length and weigh up to 8000 kilogrammes. The largest predator of all time was Liopleurodon, a massive marine carnivore of the Jurassic Period.
